I'm back!

It's been a while since my last post. I've graduated with honors, been to a few job interviews, applied to many many job postings, and have patiently waited for the right career to come along. I'm still patiently waiting. I'll add another update soon. Stay tuned...

Almost There!!

It's been three weeks into my internship and I have learned and seen so much!! This experience is showing me how many steps and how much effort it takes to own an interior design business: paperwork everywhere, filing, phone calls, faxing, running errands, multitasking, and meeting deadlines everyday several times a day. Whew!!

Jane and I have done a lot in the past two weeks: To sum it up, I have -

* Completed forms for vendors to request samples & a line of credit
* Set-up and installed several software products on desktop and laptop computers
* Helped rearrange office furniture
* Created a lead list on the franchise web-based system
* Organized office supplies
* Set-up phone & fax lines
* Created a new filing system for all the paperwork
* Received packages
* Prepared printed vendor catalogs for binding
* Faxed 40 vendors tax exempt forms to receive vendor materials & samples
* Assembled industrial strength carts for vendor samples.
* Received personalized tours of Lamar, Jeffery O. Moyer Family Dentistry, Lamar Methodist Church, Barton County Public Library (all of which Jane has been involved with the design process) and Maco Creations (a custom cabinet and counter top company).

Whew!! It's been fun though!! Jane is great to work with and I love her enthusiasm and dedication to interior design.

On Monday, Lacey will begin interning with Jane too and we are expecting mountains of vendor materials and samples. Can't wait!!

A tour

Today, Jane gave me a small tour of Lamar and showed me the dental office space (her husband's) she designed using Steelcase office products. I will post pics soon.

Testing the water

I got to test the water today with my internship. Jane, my employer, needed a little help today with preparation in launching her franchise with Decorating Den Interiors. I can say it is very busy and there is lots to learn!! I filled out necessary paperwork to gain material resources from preferred vendors and created a database of leads for her business. I really enjoyed working with her and having the opportunity to help her. I know there is a lot more to do and will get another chance on Wednesday to work with her again.

Lego-Style Apartment

I came across this from a classmate and found this to be such a great space. I enjoy the open space and how it's full of surprises. A very simple-clean space with so much to offer.

PREPARING TO STEP OUTSIDE...

With 2 weeks of school left for the semester, I am preparing myself mentally and physically to begin my journey as a summer intern working at Decorating Den Interiors.  I know it will be an exciting and fun experience to learn the many aspects of running your own business in the field.  I hope you enjoy reading about my experiences headed my way this summer.
